Garden Gnome Makeover

As my friends and family know I love garden gnomes. Their cute little faces make me smile and laugh every time I look at them. They never get old, WELL...they were looking old. I bought these about 5 years ago and they are looking a little sad. So I got out my paints and decided to give them a makeover.

This one carrying the basket works great for birdseed.
All Fixed Up
This one has been slacking as my yard has TONS of leaves that need raking.
Maybe now that he has a new look he will work harder so I wont have to????
This guy is my FAVORITE...I can't help but laugh when I see him..He is so cheery.
Especially now with his bright red hat. Don't ya think??

Family BBQ On Memorial Day

Today we headed over to my mom and dad's house for a Memorial Day BBQ.Normally we all bring dishes over and then BBQ Steaks or Ribs. This year I decided to try my hand at Kabobs. I made steak and chicken (for my sister who doesn't eat meat). They marinated for overnight and turned out GREAT!! Mom was in charge of dessert. She went the easy route as Marie Calendars restaurant near our house had there Chocolate Cream Pies on sale and she picked up a couple.
We all headed outside as the weather was B.E.A.utiful. We find ourselves always over at their house so we can enjoy the beautiful deck and patio we all built last year.
The boys brought out tons of boardgames even. What a blessing they joined us outside instead of playstation inside.
My dad and Greg even relaxed. Greg doesn't want to go back to work tomorrow after 3 days off in a row. Blessedly he was off this weekend as they cannot close the freeways during holiday weekends.
Emily and my mom playing scrabble. Emily has fallen in love with this game. I need to inform my good friend Karen. (Karen you now have someone to play Scrabble with). Here my son Nathan (Left) and his friends Ricky (Middle) and Eric (Right) got to come over and hang out and play board games.

I hope and pray you all had a wonderful holiday weekend and got to spend it outdoors and with loved ones.
GOD BLESS
p.s. Thank you to my sister who took all the pictures for me today as I broke the cardinal rule for photographers...yup you guessed it, forgot to charge the battery. THANKS SIS!!

Memorial Day

Greater Love
Hath No Man
Than This, That A Man
Lay Down His Life
For His Friends
John 15:13
I pray that people do not forget what memorial day is about. Let us remember the American soldiers' who gave their lives in service to this country and those that are fighting overseas now. The service that allows us to sleep in peace each night. Thank you to all the families that allow their love ones to perform this very duty.
My prayer is that your son, your daughter, your husband, or your wife comes back home to you soon and that the Lord keeps them safe as they are away. Thank you for all you do for this great country. I am very blessed for what you do.
GOD BLESS AMERICA

Girls Day Out

What I have been up to this Holiday weekend.
Saturday the kids and I were blessed with Greg being home with us since he normally works on weekends. But they cant close the freeways on a holiday weekend so he had a weekend off. So we got in the truck and headed out for a long drive towards the beach. We went shopping, found some great fish stores and out to lunch at our favorite sandwich place and ice cream. The kids laughed so much in the car I was surprised since normally they are arguing like crazy.
Sunday I spent the afternoon with my daughter Emily and my sister Kathy. Kathy and Emily love to go to this place several times a month. I have never gone and boy was I missing out. We had so much fun. I love painting in the sense of painting bedrooms, fine finish work never tried craft like painting, so I thought I would give it a try.
Emily chose a flip flop sandals trinket box. That she painted in shades of blue.
My sister picked a cup cake trinket box.
Emily did this one last time they went.
I picked a butterfly that I will hang in the house and a saltwater fish for my son Nathan who loves fish and has a wonderful talent with his saltwater reef tank.
Me Painting My Butterfly
All done.
I will take pictures of the finished pieces when we go back and pick them up on Saturday once they are fired and glazed. I cant wait to see them all finished.
Monday we are having a BBQ and will share pictures of that next time.

Lemon-Blueberry Cake

Well I tried my first dessert in the crock pot tonight. It turned out great and everyone (But Emily) loved it even Andrew (My so called adopted son) who eats everything. I even took photos of it in the crock pot, and on the plate. The first photo is from the cookbook. Yeah hers is nice and was sliced out of a round crock pot but mine tasted good anyway.
Butter-flavored cooking spray
1 can (21 ounce) blueberry pie filling, (Comstock)
1 box (18.25 ounce) lemon cake mix (Betty Crocker)
1 1/4 cups water
1/3 cup canola oil
3 large eggs
1 1/4 boiling water
1/4 cup sugar

1. Coat a 4 1/2 or 5 quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Spoon pie filling into slow cooker and set aside
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, the 1 1/2 cups water, the canola oil and eggs. Using a hand mixer beat on medium speed for 2 min. occasionally scraping side of bowl. Pour over pie filling in slow cooker.
3. In a medium bowl, combine the 1 1/4 cups boiling water and the sugar, stirring to disolve sugar. Slowly pour sugar-water mixture over cake batter in slow cooker. Stack 8 paper towels and place over the top of slow cooker without touching the cake mix (to absorb moisture). Secure with cover.
4 Cook on HIGH heat setting for 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 hours or until a wooden skewer inserted near center comes out clean. Remove crockpot from crock if able too or turn off slow cooker and let stand uncovered for 30 to 45 minutes to cool slightly before serving.
5. Scoop cake onto desserts plates. Serve warm topped with blueberry mixture left in bottom of cooker.

Mine.

In the crock pot.

Bloom Where You Are Planted

As most of our family and friends know Greg and I and now even the kids are looking forward to the time when the Lord blesses us with our hearts desire. FORTUNA, CA. While traveling up the Pacific Coast one summer in our trailer we decided to stay a few day in Fortuna in Humbolt County. We visited the beautiful California Redwoods where we saw the Avenue Of The Giants and the Eel River. We visited the beautiful Pacific Ocean Coastline and fell in love with the small town life of Fortuna, Ferndale, and Loleta. Greg and I instantly said this is where we want to live one day.
Fortuna California
Several years have passed since our trip and we still hunger for the quiet little town, the cool weather and GOD's beauty. We are ready to move and my parents have decided they would like to move up there as well. So we find ourselves asking, "why havent we been able to move yet?" "Why cant we just go?" "Why do we have to stay here" "Are we EVER gonna get to move"

I find myself hating the city in which we currently live. Greg finds himself also hating the city, is annoyed with the type of people that live in a huge city, the summer heat here and dreams of the cool weather. I find myself getting sucked into all the bad things a huge city has to offer. The busy unfriendly people who always seem to be in a hurry, The noisey neighbors who never say hello or only speak when they have a complaint. The traffic full of road rage people. The crazy high schools the kids attend. I do realize small town life has draw backs and that it isnt all roses, but it has always been my goal in life to live in the country and small town where people seem to care more, time moves slower, and GOD's beauty is very where I look.

I have now come to understand GOD planted me here in this home, in the this city and I must Bloom Where I Am Planted. If I harbor this dislike for my city and neighbors and long for my dream in Fortuna how am I doing HIS work. So we realize that we have work left to do here first. The Lord so wants to bless HIS children with their hearts desires but sometimes it is in HIS time, not ours. I realize that I could be a quiet moment in someone busy schedule, give them a smile, let them go ahead of me in the grocery line, show grace on the streets. I could be the kind neighbor to the unfriendly ones. Why cant I wave as I go out to the car, show them kindness not dislike. Become more involved in my childrens crazy high school. So we have alot of growing in grace and blooming here to do first.

So we still pray and ask for GOD's help in moving up north. But we also ask for HIS guidance in blooming here in the city. We have found that once we changed our prayers, GOD has shown us ways to make it happen. We set up a budget and will be debt free in 4 years. We also wait the housing market and pray it will be better in 4 years so we can sell our home and move. We discover that Eureka has a survey office that Greg could transfer to. We learn that Nathan would like to attend Humbolt State University and study medicine. Emily would be able to gradute here with her friends. So we wait for HIS timing and continue to learn our lessons on how to improve our attitudes to do GOD's will here. So we will strive to "BLOOM WHERE WE ARE PLANTED"

Here are some beautiful pictures we took of the Fortuna area and perhaps you can see why we fell in love with GOD's Country and would love to live there. Greg and I also pray that you will BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED as well.

This is the Eel River where Greg, Nathan, and Grandpa soon hope to be fishing.
The bridge over the Eel River heading into Ferndale. Where all the homes are victorian farm houses and bed and breakfasts.

The Avenue Of The Giants. The redwoods are full of walking trails that I hope to walk hand and hand with Greg and our dogs.

This is the Carson Mansion a local tourist attraction in the city of Eureka. Also on the corner you see a small portion of The Pink Lady victorian another popular tourist victorian. Eureka offers more of the "city" ammenities. Shopping mall for Emily, Movie theaters, a Costco, lots of fast food resturants and blessedly a Survey Office.

This is our dream home in Fortuna. This one is actually for sale in Fortuna. We check regularly and find it is still for sale. Fortuna is located along the coast more. Where some of the homes have ocean views and some like this one back right up to the Redwoods and offer more room to run and play.
GOD BLESS AND ALWAYS REMEMBER "BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED"

Mother's Day With Greg's Family

We went out to Greg's families house Saturday for Mother's Day. We had a great time helping put some finishing touches on a wonderful vegetable garden they built. Even though we got to spend only the day we had a wonderful time working out there and visiting.
Jan's Mother's Day present. A minature rose tree for her rose garden.

Greg's mom Jan, Our sister-in-law Lori, Our Neice Shannon, and our son Nathan helping plant some seeds and small plantings that they had started already.

Greg and his dad got some good visit time in while we worked.

A nice overview of the garden. This is only half of it. But it will be a very nice garden. They started by planting some corn and squash and then some watermelon and canalope. They had some dill and other herbs to plant. I can't wait to see it next month when we go out again. It should be well on its way by then.

Dad and Greg and Bella the Dog.

A View Of God's Saltwater Creatures From Nathan's Tank

Nathan took some photos of his salt water reef aquarium he has in his bedroom. He first came to Greg and I and asked to do this saltwater tank. Myself having grown up in tropical fresh water aquariums thought well it would be nice but not saltwater to much work. So he started out with a tropical tank and did so well with that Greg and I decided to let him expand his horizons and do saltwater. Nathan spends hours pouring over the internet or books and has done an excelent job. He has even gotten Greg and Myself involved in saltwater and we have a 24 gallon aquapod reef tank. The color and beauty just amaze me but the greatest thing to see is how GOD created each animal in the ocean to maintain a specific purpose. Such as Shrimp to clean the fish and the algae from rocks. How the Rock Blenny Nathan has (sorry no photo of him yet) cleans the rocks and eats the bad algae and not the good. Or the corals that are needed for certain fish to clean. Nathan has truly opened my eyes up to GOD wonders of the sea. Nathan and I thought you might enjoy just a sample of some of these guys. All these photos were taken by Nathan and he promised more to come so stay tuned.
Nathan's 65 gallon reef tank.

this one is a foxface. One of Nathan's first fish

This one is called a Flame Angel. This one is in Nathan's tank but Greg also got one for our 24 gallon Reef Tank as it is Greg's favorite fishy

This was Nathan's FIRST fish it is a yellow tailed blue damsel

this guy is my favorite it is a African Spotted Leopard Wrasse. He is in Nate's tank I tried one in mine and didnt make it as my Sixline Wrasse killed it. :(

This guy is funny he sits up on the coral and looks down at everyone. He is a Longnose Hawkfish. Name suits him. He watches Nathan's coming and going just like a hawk. :)

Nathan says he has several other fishies but they are either way to fast and show up as a blur or they are hiding. He has several Nemo's (Clown Fish), a Dori (a blue tang) and bubbles (a yellow tang). We hoped you enjoyed a dive into GOD's world under the sea.

Everything Is Coming Up Roses

Well as I mentioned before Spring has Sprung in our yard. My flowers are starting to blossom out. My 1 year old apple trees now have started to turn from blossoms to little apples. My 1 year old Tangerine tree is doing the same thanks to all of God's buzzing creatures. Some of my favorite roses have arrived and are already being cut and added to the house or brought over every Sunday to my mom's house for Sunday Dinner. I thought I would share some of this years roses with all of you. Especially all my garden loving friends from church. Nathan and I are looking forward to cleaning up the side yard and planting a vegetable garden. We had a small fenced in one last year just for lettuce and tomatoes but this should be alot better and larger where the turtle and the dog cant get into it. Plus place to grow vineing vegetables.
this one is called purple tiger
Not one rose is the same.

This is a Double Delight.. this is a real favorite in the house as it smells so good

these last two are from my newest rose bush. It is called Josephs Coat. It starts out a bright yellow and orange and then gradually fades into bright red.

Sunday In The Garden

Well Spring has sprung here and we have TONS of work to do. What started out as me weeding the garden and Nate mowing the grass turned into a wonderful family work day. Greg started to replace all the damaged sprinklers and piping. The flower bed is now weed free. (Sitting here wondering how long that will last...Hmmm. 2 weeks?? Oh well the joys of owning a garden. But as my sign says above my front door.."May all your weeds be wildflowers"

Well Nate is done with the lawn mowing and is off to volunteer and learn some at our friends fish store. So now that his chores are done he is outta here. Naw I love seeing him wanting to help others. What a blessing.
Well my chore of weeding is complete and Greg tells me to take a rest and sit in the shade with a nice glass of water while he finishes up the sprinklers. Well if you know me you know I cant just sit there while Greg works. Which just makes me laugh as I am reminded of my close friends Karen and Chris. Karen has a few health issues and shouldnt work to much so her husband Chris is always telling her sit there and look pretty. I can do that I think. So I am sitting in the shade under my arch and am looking at this thorny climbing rose that Greg and the kids just hate. Especially as we have our big truck now and not the suburban and have less room to get by. So I start to think Well I am gonna start pruning this down some. Greg wont notice I have gotten up and starting working again...WRONG!! I am soon into pruning when hubby asks "Are you taking that thing out?" Ummm, Well, Umm.. Yes?? I respond which quickly earns me a two thumbs up from Greg. So once the rose is out I start rocking the arch back and forth thinking I can take this out? Thankfully hubby comes to my rescue and we soon have the arch removed and now have a MILE worth of space to get by. Which of course I have heard all week from everyone to Greg and the kids to my parents to even Toby the mailman on how much room we now have. As You can see!!
Well My garden is looking so much better and we had a wonderful time together working in our little yard. Stay tuned for more from our little garden.
